BEST TIME TO GO

The best time to visit Tokyo is March, April, October and November when weather is great without heavy rains and high temperatures of summer. The spring is magical with a cherry blossom season, when sightseeing, outdoor activities, parks and gardens are at their best. Autumn is another excellent time to visit Tokyo, as the humidity has subsided and the trees in Tokyo’s parks and gardens are ablaze with vibrant autumn colours - perfect for a photo opportunity.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Today, Tokyo is one of the world's great cities and it offers a seemingly unlimited choice of shopping, entertainment, culture and dining to its visitors. It is a hi-tech showcase of modern Japan, and yet some parts evoke the past with low-slung wooden buildings and glowing lanterns radiating surprising warmth. The city's history can be appreciated in districts such as Asakusa and in many historic temples and gardens and excellent museums. Tokyo is a foodies paradise, with more Michelin stars restaurants than any city on earth. So, if you're after the culinary experience, Tokyo has food that will amaze you. The shopping is incredible as well - if you can't find it in Tokyo, it probably doesn't exist.

TRAVEL TIPS

Always remember to carry some cash on you, while many larger stores have begun to accept credit cards, many smaller shops still do not take them. You can find currency exchanges at the airports and throughout the city, or you can withdraw money from ATM’s.

There are no trash cans on the streets of Tokyo so make sure you have a plastic bag in which you can curry your rubbish with you, which can dispose of at the end of the day. Sometimes you can find bins on train platforms and at the front of convenience stores.

You’ll find quite a few English speakers around central Tokyo but having a translation app is still very handy. There are places where people are more likely speak English—train stations, airports, and major tourist attractions especially. Try to save your questions for those places.
